Hi! I’m Amon aka Doll_Philosoher. I’ve been a member of many bjd and other doll related groups for years and a collector of dolls of varying types since 2015. As a male doll collector I find community challenging but my husband urges me to be more involved!

What do you do for the site?

For the site I primarily help moderate content. I also build advertisement flyers (using Canva) and help implement new features. I’m not a computer genius so I leave that stuff to others.

What do you do for the Discord/community?

In Discord I assist with content moderation, new feature implementation, welcoming new members, assisting members in finding what they need, and helping locate holes in content that may need to be more throughly evaluated. Mostly just a man behind a curtain answering questions.

Why are you in the hobby?

I began doll collecting as a mental health project. I was suffering deep bouts of depression and bought my first doll as something that I could “tend” to. He got clothes and shoes. A giant converted vintage Barbie house. The works. Once I realized the wide range of dolls within the community I began researching and landed in 70+cm resin dolls. While I still have a myriad of types and materials of dolls I owe it all to one simple mental health project.

Why are you part of Dollvale?

DollVale is an effort to be something for someone. Maybe not everyone. But for someone. When I joined the community I found many places to be aggressive and difficult to join as a novice. I want to extend welcoming arms to the community so that others have a place to learn and grow, and experienced collectors have a safe sharing space. Whether people join for the education then go elsewhere, or make it a lifetime spot they want to call home, I wanted to be part of it.

Anything else members should know?

My personal life is usually that, personal, but I think it’s important to know that I am a male doll collector who is married to a male. We have a special needs son that we adopted together. These don’t make me more qualified to be a mod in a doll space, but they do speak to how vigilantly I fight for marginalized, underserved communities. It’s the core of who I am and what I stand for.
