Dollvale is an anti-recast community and does not allow recast dolls in any portion of the website or Discord unless being used for educational purposes and public awareness, such as identifying recasts or known recast companies.

What Exactly Is a Recast?

Within the ball-jointed doll community, a recast is an unauthorized reproduction of an original doll sculpt. Recasts are typically created by making molds from legitimately produced dolls and using those molds to manufacture copies without the knowledge, permission, or consent of the original artist or company.

• An unauthorized mold made from an original sculpt.
• A resin copy produced without the artist knowledge or consent.
• A counterfeit product sold in competition with legitimate creators.
• A violation of artistic rights and the ethical standards Dollvale seeks to uphold.

Why Are Recasts Harmful?

Recasts harm artists and creators, damage trust within the hobby, may be made from lower-quality or potentially unsafe materials, and discourage future creativity.

Dollvale Stance on Recasts

Dollvale is an anti-recast community. We believe in protecting artists, supporting legitimate creators, and fostering a safe and ethical community for doll enthusiasts of all backgrounds and experience levels.

• Recast dolls may not be bought, sold, traded, advertised, promoted, or knowingly distributed through Dollvale.
• Recast dolls may not be knowingly displayed or promoted in Dollvale galleries or other community spaces.
• Dollvale may not be used to advertise, promote, recommend, or direct members to known recast sellers or marketplaces.
• Members may discuss recasting when doing so serves a legitimate educational, historical, identification, or community-safety purpose.

Education Before Condemnation

Dollvale recognizes that not every collector enters the hobby with an understanding of recasts. We believe these situations should be approached with patience, education, and kindness. Our goal is not to shame collectors. Our goal is to protect artists, educate our community, and preserve the art form we love.

This website was built with the help of AI for technical work like programming questions, debugging code, and complicated coding tasks. Dollvale bans AI-generated or AI-edited images across its website, forum, and all other platforms.

That covers AI-generated images, backgrounds made or tweaked by AI, and photos heavily altered with generative AI. Dollvale puts artists first: their rights, labor, consent, and intellectual property matter here. We do not support using creative material without permission, altering it without rights, or feeding it into generative AI systems for training or operation.
